Today, the Sacramento Kings announced the return of the Capitalize: Technology contest, celebrating its tenth year as the NBA’s first crowdsourced startup competition. Capitalize is designed to highlight and support emerging technology entrepreneurs in the Sacramento region. The contest is presented by Reviver, the Official Innovation Partner of the Sacramento Kings and current jersey patch partner, Fidium Fiber and the City of Sacramento’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development, which is supporting the contest for a seventh season.

“For ten years, the Capitalize program has provided invaluable coaching and resources to local startups, helping them grow their businesses while showcasing their innovations on a global stage,” said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. “We’re honored to continue this legacy and look forward to seeing the incredible ideas from this year’s participants.”

“As a past participant of the Capitalize: Technology contest, we can’t overstate the impact this program has had on our growth,” said Reviver Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Neville Boston. “The mentorship, exposure, and connections we gained through Capitalize were instrumental in helping us scale and establish partnerships like the one we now have with the Sacramento Kings. This competition is a game-changer for local startups, and we’re proud to support its efforts to empower the next generation of innovators. It also underscores the importance of diversity in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, fostering inclusive opportunities that reflect and benefit our communities.”

Applications for Capitalize: Technology are now open, and startups located within 70 miles of Golden 1 Center are eligible to apply at Kings.com/Capitalize by February 7 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Select applicants will receive mentorship and coaching as they prepare for Pitch Day where a panel of successful executives, investors and industry leaders will determine the four finalists. The four finalists will create videos about their startup for fan votes. Fans will have until halftime of the Kings vs. the Denver Nuggets on April 9 to vote for their favorite contestant and the winner will be announced in-game and presented a cash prize of $10,000 for further development of their business.

Since launching in 2016, Capitalize has attracted hundreds of applicants and showcased Sacramento as a hub for entrepreneurial innovation. The program provides participants with critical mentorship and a platform to connect with leaders in business and technology.
