Reviver’s Commitment to Safety and Security for Digital License Plates

January 9, 2025

At Reviver, we prioritize the security of our digital license plate products, systems, and customer data above all else. As with any electronic device, concerns about potential vulnerabilities sometimes arise, so we wanted to share some key facts about Reviver’s best-in-class security features.

First and foremost, digital license plates offer far more security and protection against manipulation compared to standard license plates, which can be easily tampered. Additionally, customer and DMV data, including personally identifiable information (PII), are fully protected by Reviver’s industry-leading encryption standards and compliance frameworks to ensure data is not vulnerable to hacking, giving our customers and partners peace of mind.

Here’s What Else You Should Know About the Privacy and Security of Reviver Digital License Plates:

  1. We’ve Built-in Anti-Hacking Safeguards to Protect Customers: Whenever a Reviver digital license plate is removed, tampered with, disabled, hacked, or manipulated in any way, registered customers receive an immediate alert, and the plate enters “detached mode,” ceasing communication with Reviver’s system. Reviver also receives a notification, enabling our team to identify and proactively communicate with customers whose plates become inactive. This ensures any attempts to tamper with or hack are instantly detected by both the plate owner and Reviver.
  2. Digital Plates Are Far More Secure Than Traditional Plates: Standard metal license plates are far more vulnerable to swapping, cloning, tracking, or tampering. Drivers who attempt to dodge tolls or avoid tickets continue to utilize a variety of illegal tactics – which aren’t effective on a digital license plate. In addition, Reviver’s digital license plates incorporate advanced security features such as encryption, tamper alerts, and remote updates, offering significantly greater protection against hacking and manipulation for vehicle owners.
  3. GPS or No GPS—It’s up to you! While our battery-powered plate does not have built-in GPS capabilities, our wired plate does. However, GPS plates are not Bluetooth-connected, ensuring location data remains secure—no one can access your data wirelessly. Moreover, we are constantly reviewing our products and security features to identify opportunities for performance and security enhancements, further ensuring digital license plates aren’t vulnerable to hacking. By incorporating the latest advancements into our firmware and hardware updates, our solutions remain robust, reliable, and well-protected against emerging vulnerabilities. As technology evolves, Reviver’s commitment to safety and security allows us to deliver technology that evolves to meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
  4. Our Commitment to Security: Security and customer safety are at the core of everything we do. As the leader in digital license plate technology, Reviver continuously evaluates and strengthens our security protocols to stay ahead of emerging risks. Our multi-layered approach ensures that your data and our products remain secure, even against the most sophisticated hackers.

In our digital age, concerns about security, hacking, and manipulation of technology are understandable, and we’re often asked whether digital license plates can be compromised. The short answer is no. While it’s theoretically possible for skilled individuals to manipulate or jailbreak any electronic device, doing so with a Reviver digital license plate is both illegal exceedingly difficult because of the robust protections we have put in place. Additionally, our built-in tamper alerts ensure malicious activity is immediately discovered, adding another layer of protection for our digital license plate customers.

Reviver is proud to deliver innovative, secure, and reliable solutions for customers. By advancing the safety and security of license plate technology, we’re paving the way for a safer, more connected driving experience.
